DESCRIPTION:

 

Sri Lanka is a tropical paradise. The vegetation of the coastal belt is lush and breathtaking, and the mountainous areas of the interior are wonderful. Cool sea breezes temper the coast's tropical climate through most of the year and the hills and mountains in the island's center are cool at night.

 

It is located just north of the equator and at the Southern-most tip of the Indian peninsula. This tear drop shaped island with its fascinating beauty has often been termed as the ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean’. 

 

There is an amazing amalgamation of flora and fauna in Sri Lanka. While in the North-Eastern and North-Western coastal areas we find herds of elephants roaming around, the South- Eastern corner of the island is a vast National Park which boasts of the highest density of leopards in the world.

 

The center of the island is a plateau from which rise the great ranges of hills. One such peak is the holy ‘Adam’s Peak’, reached by thousands of Buddhist devotees’ the world over. 

 

Coconut, Rubber, Tea and Spice plantations dominate the landscape. We also find rare migrant and endemic birds and butterflies. The plant life, with some treasured forest orchids blooming on fabulously lush tree tops, captures the nature lover’s breath instantly with its awe and wonder.

 

BEST TIME TO VISIT:

 

December to March: West and south coasts and hill country

 

April/May to September: East coast

 

Sri Lanka being close to the Equator, the temperatures remain fairly constant year-round
